JCC・ROM Online lecture of the Japanese Men’s Hockey National Team “Samurai Japan”

ROM Utrecht Region and JCC will co-organize the special online lecture of the Japanese Men’s Hockey National Team “Samurai Japan” on Sunday, July 4, 2021, from 10.00hrs (CET) / 17.00 (JST).

Field hockey is one of the most popular sports in the Netherlands, along with football and speed skating. Currently, the Dutch Men’s National hockey team is ranked 4th, and Dutch Women’s National hockey team is ranked 1st in the world by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

In the Netherlands, you often see many people – young and old – ride a bicycle with a hockey stick on their back. Both the Japanese Men’s (Samurai Japan) and Women’s (Sakura Japan) National Field Hockey Teams won the gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. With their championship performances, both teams earned the right to represent Japan at the Tokyo Olympics this year for the first time since the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games. Did you know that a Dutch coach is behind the achievements of the Japanese Men’s Field Hockey National Team, who are currently steadily improving their ability? Did you also know that Mr Kenta Tanaka (FW) currently plays for Hoofdklasse (premier league) Dutch hockey club HGC in Wassenaar and brings the Dutch spirit and positive influence to the Japanese team?

During the lecture, Mr Aikman and Mr Tanaka will tell you their experiences in Japan and the Netherlands, respectively, and their future ambitions.

We hope you can enjoy this unique and exciting lecture that will provide a ‘behind the scenes’ look at the Dutch-Japanese partnership that led to great success for the Japanese Men’s Field Hockey National Team.
